Wearable devices are hard to sell, and apple watch is still the only one
This year's WWDC conference of apple is completely "soft". The only hardware released is the new Apple watch rainbow watch band. However, the wearable device business led by Apple watch has gradually become the industry leader.
Today, IDC, a market research company, released a 2018 Q1 global wearable device market report. The data shows that the global wearable device shipments in the first quarter were 25.1 million units, an increase of 1.2% year-on-year. Compared with the same period last year, the growth rate of 18% can be said to have plummeted.
Wearable devices are in the same downturn as smart phones, which is mainly caused by the drop of 9.2% in basic wearable device shipments. Meanwhile, smart devices are more popular with consumers, and relatively high-end smart wearable devices such as apple and Fitbit are up 28.4%.

According to IDC, watches and bracelets accounted for 95% of global wearable device shipments in the first quarter, and apple was undoubtedly the biggest winner.
With the launch of Apple watch series 3, which supports cellular network, apple watch's shipment volume increased by 13.5% year-on-year, and the market share of Apple wearable devices increased from 14.3% to 16.1%, ranking the first place steadily, taking the lead in the overall downturn of the market.

According to Apple's results for the first quarter of this year, apple watch's revenue and shipments have both increased by more than 50%. Apple watch series 3 sold more than double what series 2 sold a year ago.
According to market research firm GBH insights, 70% of Apple watch series 3 users are new users.
In the second quarter of Apple's earnings conference call, Cook said that the revenue of wearable device business, including airpods, beats headphones and apple watch, increased nearly 50%, supporting the growth of more than 90% of Apple's "other products". Cook's evaluation of this business is:
Our wearable devices business is now among the fortune 300.
Among them, Apple Watch, which accounts for half of the smart Watch market, has made great contributions. Although this WWDC conference did not launch a new Apple watch, it also updated watchOS 5 to better support sports functions.
